Trail conditions update for the week of January 4, 2021

Here are this week’s trail condition updates for the north shore area. Updates include snowmobile, cross country and snowshoe trails. These are sourced from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
C.J. Ramstad/North Shore State Trail
Date of update: January 7, 2021
The whole trail was groomed once this week. Use caution as the trail is still rough in areas. Watch out for rocks, brush, bumps and dirt patches in areas.
Cascade River State Park
Date of update: December 31, 2020
On December 30, 4-5″ of snow fell. The cross-country ski trails are in good condition – the deck was groomed flat and a classic skiing track-set was laid. Track set is thin in some spots and not established on the lakeshore trail. Hikers will find hard-pack trails along the Cascade River. Ice cleats are recommended for hiking. Note that the warming house at the trailhead is closed this year.
George H. Crosby-Manitou State Park
Date of update: January 6, 2021
Trails are not groomed for skiing but are very good for snowshoeing. You can snowshoe anywhere in Minnesota’s state parks and recreation areas, except on trails that are specifically groomed for another activity, such as skiing or snowmobiling.
Temperance River State Park
Date of update: January 6, 2021
Watch for icy spots on trails hiding under the fresh blanket of snow, especially near the river gorge. Cross country skiing is available, but there is not a track set. Snowmobile trails have been groomed.
Tettegouche State Park
Date of update: January 6, 2021
This week, packing and grooming trails began. The base is still thin in spots so use caution. The main ski loop and trails to Tettegouche Camp are groomed and tracked. The Palisade Valley Trail is groomed and tracked. The Cart-In loop is groomed and tracked and Mount Baldy has snowshoeing opportunities.
