Northern Minnesota usually has a good couple of feet of snow on the ground by Thanksgiving and by early December, most winter activities are in high gear. Snowmobilers have laid their first tracks of the season, anglers are fishing for “the big one” and hockey, well that is typically played in the arena or on a backyard pond after much shoveling to remove snow. This year’s cold winter start, absent of the typical snow has created the ideal “pond” or rather “lake” skating conditions.
Lax Lake, a few miles outside of Silver Bay is just one of those lakes in our area with the best skating conditions. Check out the video below of a group of Silver Bay youth playing lake hockey on Lax Lake.
