Silver Bay is BEST of the North Shore for Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

There’s something about the sound of cross-country skis scraping and gliding down a trail that is at once, meditative and energizing. Now, add in the serenity of a densely wooded forest, thick with pines and spruce and you have the makings for a magical experience.
Silver Bay is home to the Northwoods Ski Trail, which is located just outside of city limits, off of Penn avenue. It is a beautiful wooded, single track trail that follows the Beaver River. It then moves away from the river over rolling hills and eventually connects to the trails at Tettegouche State Park. Tettegouche State Park offers just over 15 miles of groomed trails, four of which are for skate skiing. The Silver Bay area has a wide range of moderate to difficult trails that include flat and smooth straightaways to long and fast downhills. No matter if you’re a first time skier or an expert who’s logged too many kilometers to count, we have trails for all experience types coupled with pristine beauty that all can enjoy.
When the cross-country trails are not at their best, snowshoeing is a perfect alternative. Tettegouche, Split Rock and Crosby Manitou in Finland are all beautiful areas to explore on snowshoes.
Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are not only some of the healthiest winter activities you can do, but they also offer a sense of peace and tranquility that you have to experience to believe.
Pack your bags, get away from the crowds and venture to the North Shore!
