winter at Tettegouche

As winter approaches, the first few dustings of snow tease us with a few inches that melt quickly over the days that follow. That first real snowstorm is always highly anticipated. As the weather stations call for double digit accumulations, we hold our breath.

This past Thanksgiving did not disappoint! Silver Bay and the surrounding areas received upwards of 20-24 inches of snow over the Thanksgiving weekend, up to 30+ inches in some areas and the snow has continued to fall. Each week another 3-5 inches or more has been added to our base.

The temperatures have dipped well below freezing, solidifying that the snow is here to stay. Many of the cross country skiing and snowmobile trails are now open.

C.J. Ramstad/North Shore Snowmobile Trail Report (Dec 12): The trail has been groomed from Duluth to Grand Marais this week. The trails are still soft and conditions will vary with some bumps and wet spots. Use caution when riding.

The Tettegouche State Park cross country ski trails are packed down, cleared and ready to be groomed. With more snow on the way the trails are not currently tracked.

Winter is settling in and the snow is here to stay! Make plans to visit Silver Bay for your next snowmobile trip, cross country skiing or snowshoeing adventure. Be sure to check out the local lodging and dining accommodations.

We’ll see you around!
